I-shu Chen, geboren in Taipeh/Taiwan, 1998-2000 Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. 2000-2004 Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. 2004 Meisterschüler bei Prof. Rabinowitch. Lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf.

The series „Fake Landscape“ was created from 2020-2022, for the project of a group exhibition in Kaohsiung Art Museum in Taiwan 2023. I have selected 86 works which belong to a small group from almost 750 works on paper made from pastell, acryl and charcol.

„Fake Landscape“ was translated directly from Chinese „假⼭⽔“, pronunciation: jia san shie. The definition „Fake Landscape“ embodies a important part of Chinese garden art in ancient China. People go for a walk between fully planted and partly curiously stones in the garden landscape. Such landscape will be considered as a symbol at that time for the scholars who live in the cities, but dreaming for an idyllic life surrounded with fully nature. Some similar examples can be found in traditional Chinese painting.

But, I was above all influenced by the Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992), whose famous series of photographs are from amusement theme parks. Ghirri's photography shows humorous to understand landscape which exist between dream and reality. With this point of view I try to experiment in many different ways.
